Hello Foodie Friends!
First, I would like say thank-you to everyone who came out for our Grand opening. Congratulations to our door prize winners; Karen August (Picnic Box), Marilyn Gartsen ($25 worth of Cheeses and a Cheese board) and the big winner, Sadie Cavanagh who picked up the $225.00 Gift Basket.
I am happy to report we are getting our Italian fly in order today. I will be receiving a limited number of fresh Burrata and Buffalo Mozzarellas late this afternoon. I have had several requests over the past week for the Burrata so I expect them to go quickly.
If you have never tried Burrata it is a lovey treat. Try it drizzled with a bit of olive oil and some good balsamic. A few small tomatoes a fresh baguette and a bit of serrano ham along with it and you have a lovely simple dinner on a hot summer night. Or try it drizzled with honey and roasted figs as shown in the current summer Food and Drink magazine.
New this week!
New this week from Hewitt’s Dairy in Hagersville is single servings of goat milk ice cream.
We have a few new cheeses in!
Eweda Cru is a firm and creamy gouda style cheese aged nine months. It has a pale paste and is coated in a beautiful spring green wax. The flavour is nutty at first then grassy with a creamy and bit of a buttery finish.
Mouton Rouge has a washed sticky rind that is pale red-orange in colour. The paste is a light creamy yellow. Like most washed rind cheeses this one is a bit of a stinker but mildly so. The aroma is a bit like wet grass and the flavour is mild and slightly salty. This is a great cracker cheese.
Both the Eweda Cru and the Mouton Rouge are raw sheep milk cheese from Best Baa Dairy in Fergus, Ontario.
We have expanded our Gouda offerings over the past few weeks. In addition to all our Goudas from the Netherlands we now have a several from Ontario. For the Thunder Bay alumni we brought in extra aged Thunder Oak, their Smoked and Dill young Goudas. We also have a lovely aged Gouda with cumin from New Hamburg, Ontario.
This months feature cheese is Nazareth Royal
It is a lovely sweet and nutty semi firm cheese from Belgium. It is great for snacking or sliced in your favorite sandwich. It also melts beautifully on any dish.
Each week we carry fresh salsa’s from La Mesita Catering. We have the Pico de Gallo and Avacado and Tomatillo Salsa’s.
We also make fresh homemade soup most days.
Potato soup, just like grandmas
We hope to see you soon,
